Sky Sports and the English Football League have pledged to announce their TV choices as early as possible this season to avoid last season’s scenario where fans were left out of pocket by late fixture changes.
Some branch members suffered in particular when the trip to Huddersfield was brought forward at just a couple of weeks’ notice.
The good news is that at 4pm on Wednesday, July 13 we will find out which Forest games have been selected from matchday three to nine (up to the end of September) and when we can expect to be paying a visit to the Roxy…
Guidelines for the future announcement of TV dates are:
October/November games: July
December/early January games: Mid-December
January games: Mid-November
February games: Mid-December
March games: January
April/May games: Five weeks before
Final day: After the penultimate round of fixtures
The match at Brighton has already been brought forward 24 hours to Friday, August 12 and – even with the likes of Newcastle and Villa in the division – Forest are still likely to remain TV regulars with 92 Championship games being shown live this season. If Leeds at home isn’t picked then it would be a major surprise!
And last season there was a high profile case of a Derby fan who spent £5,000 to travel from Norway for the weekend for their home game with Burnley only to see it wasted because of Sky moved it to the following Monday. Bless.
