You’ll Never Beat Des Walker….

Never a truer song has been sung by Nottingham Forest fans over the years – during his two spells in the Garibaldi.

We have been contacted by Edmonton Rovers who are celebrating their 50th anniversary with a special evening featuring one a true Forest great.

The event takes place from 7pm at The Penridge Suite, N11 1NL on Friday, September 18.

As I’m sure you are all aware, Des has North London roots and before being snapped up by Forest in 1980 he played for youth teams in and around the Enfield area and was friends with a number of Edmonton Rovers’ early members.

He even went along to support the club in their League Cup final victory before moving away to join Forest.

The rest is history. Des played 254 times in his first spell under Brian Clough at Forest – scoring that unforgettable last-minute goal against Luton. He has called Cloughie: “The best manager I ever came across by a long way.”

He played in Italy for Sampdoria and was also a long servant of Sheffield Wednesday before a second stint, largely playing alongside Michael Dawson in a further 57 games for Forest.

Des also won 59 England caps and was one of the stars of the 1990 World Cup as Bobby Robson’s side reached the semi-finals.

He was affectionately referred to by his former Forest team-mate Roy Keane as a “world-class playboy” so we’re sure he will have more than a few stories from his illustrious career for us to enjoy and he has agreed to take part in a Q&A.

Members of the London Trickies are more than welcome to attend the event.

Tickets are £55 and include a three-course meal. The venue is around a five-minute walk from Arnos Grove station on the Piccadilly line.
